@vimga.org Email Addresses

VIMGA maintains a list of email addresses, all of which end with “@vimga.org”. Examples of these address include:

  • president@vimga.org
  • nan-district_planner@vimga.org
  • interns@vimga.org
  • members@vimga.org

Some of these addresses represent lists of email addresses; mail sent to the list address gets forwarded (re-sent) to all of the email addresses in the list. The rest of the @vimga.org addresses are called “positional addresses” because they are assigned to a VIMGA “position”, which includes members of the board of directors, committee chairs, district planners, district representatives, etc.

All VIMGA members are included in at least three of the @vimga.org mail lists:

  • members@vimga.org — All VIMGA members
  • one of:
    • ni-members@vimga.org
    • pqn-members@vimga.org
    • nan-members@vimga.org
    • cow-members@vimga.org
  • one of:
    • cmg@vimga.org
    • interns@vimga.org
    • alumni@vimga.org
    • lifetime@vimga.org

Any email sent to the pqn-members@vimga.org address, for instance, automatically gets sent to the personal email addresses of all of the Parksville-Qualicum-Nanoose district members.

Your personal email address is part of your VIMGA profile; it’s part of your VIMGA identity. You can change your personal email address at any time on the Profile page. (Note that doing so will change all email coming from VIMGA and will also change your email on the Members List.)

Reading mail from a mail list

Mail addressed to a VIMGA mail list is automatically sent to the personal email address of everyone on that list. This means that to read your mail list mail, you don’t have to do anything differently; you get your mail as you regularly do and the mail list mail will be there.

Replying to mail from a mail list

Mail that comes from a VIMGA mail list looks like any other mail: it is marked as coming from whoever sent the original email to the mail list and when you click “Reply” your message will be addressed to whoever sent the original email to the mail list.

There is no automatic way to reply to the entire mail list.

Positional email

The rest of the @vimga.org addresses are called “positional addresses” because they are assigned to a VIMGA “position”, which includes members of the board of directors, committee chairs, district planners, district representatives, etc. Often, email coming in to a positional address is forwarded to the personal email addresses of the current holder of the position. However, that incoming mail may also be stored on the email server.
